We have been asked to assist the University of South Australia, which is doing some research on retirement, with particular emphasis on the effects of the GFC (Global Financial Crisis).
The university would like to know how the GFC has affected you, whether you’re planning to retire soon or if you have already retired.
The Uni already knows that a number of workers have seen significant losses from their Superannuation accounts since the GFC, causing them to re-think when or if they can retire with sufficient funds to live a dignified retirement.
It appears that a number are having to postpone retirement, or plan to work part time (if their work permits). For those already retired, it seems a number are having to try to ‘un-retire’ and try to find part time work, with varying levels of success.
The university is hoping to get the responses of many Australian ‘near’ retirement as well as lot of recent retirees. Questions will be asked via an online questionnaire, which takes approximately 10-15 minutes to complete.
The University of South Australia hopes that this research will help to inform Public Policy about the issues of retirement, and particularly superannuation, for Australian workers.
