The A-Team

Here’s another example of a film that can piggy back a TV show that was popular years ago and has brand recognition. In this instance it was a 1980s show featuring some very violent, but appealing ex soldiers, led by a charismatic George Peppard as Colonel Hannibal Smith.

I’m guessing the fans of the original TV show will want to see the updated, big screen version. As a nostalgia trip.

This time the action is set in Iraq at the end of the US offensive. We are not sure if the A Team won the war, but they are on a mission to recover some bank bills and printing plates stolen from the Iraqi Mint.

The bad guys are a group of mercenaries who have been contracted to assist the US Military. They are employed by a security outfit called Black Forest, which is close enough to Blackwater (who were actually in Iraq) to add a small touch of realism. There is also a gang of rogue CIA agents to add to the confusion.

The plot really isn’t that important. The movie is about action and there’s certainly no shortage of mayhem. Naturally the plot is fast moving and international as we race through Mexico, Iraq, Europe and America.

The special effects technicians have created some exciting toys. An acrobatic helicopter and a flying tank are not something you see every day.

The boys who loved the A Team in the 1980s will probably get their money’s worth. Today’s teenagers will probably love it too.
