Retirement Is A Big Election Issue

Now that the election campaign is underway, the ABC is encouraging voters to complete its on line VOTE COMPASS survey.

This survey shows the participants where they stand as individuals in relation to the major parties’ positions on a range of issues.  As well, the survey shows what participants regard as the major issues in the campaign.

Between May 8 and May 11 60,300 people had completed the survey and the following results are based on that groups’ responses.  What was surprising is that RETIREMENT AND SENIORS had shown up nationally as the fifth most important issue after the obvious ones of the Economy, Health and Education.  Even more surprising was the fact that in Queensland, Western Australia and the Northern Territory the issue of RETIREMENT AND SENIORS was second after the Economy.

This development will have strategists in all parties thinking.  Will these older voters be looking for higher pensions or will they consider the financial health of the nation is more important?
