It is common knowledge that Australian society is aging as the baby boomer generation, the most populous of the current generations, are now into their fifties and beyond. This generation are also the fortunate recipients of the advantages of modern medical science and its ability to prolong our life span. Baby boomer generation now face issues that have never been faced by any similar generation before in history due to longer life spans and in particular decades of quality life after retirement and the physical and psychological challenges these bring about.

Baby boomers face many new challenges such as how to maintain long term relationships, it wasn’t that long ago when marriages rarely survived 25 years due to shorter life spans. Many baby boomers will now experience marriages of over 50 years with some having experienced multiple marriages each being over 15 years or more. These are unprecedented long term relationships from a historical perspective. Each relationship itself brings with it new challenges from financial to sexual issues that all challenge the integrity of the relationship. Single baby boomers also face their own challenges in regards to relationships, life and change.

So it’s about time someone covered the many relationship challenges that baby boomers now face in a book and Sandra Kimball has successfully done this in her book Relationships; In our 50’s, 60’s and beyond. Sandra has covered the many relationship issues faced by couples over fifty in a logical and compassionate way. This book is primarily designed for those coming into their fifties to help them consider how to face future challenges together. Having said that anyone in a long term relationship regardless of where it is at will take something positive away from this book.
