According to the Federal Government’s Green Vehicle Guide, many of Australia’s preferred cars are particularly damaging to our environment.

Among the top ten best-sellers, cars such as the Toyota Hilux 4X4 received two and a half stars out of five in the Green Vehicle Guide, the Holden Commodore and Ford Falcon received three and a half stars. However Australia’s best selling car, the Toyota Corolla, received four stars. 

The Green Vehicle Guide calculates the Greenhouse rating based on the fuel consumption and the level of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. A higher rating means the car produces a lower level of CO2.
